$10 DONATED. $1,000 IN MEDICAL DEBT ERASED. THAT'S THE ACTUAL MATH.

Undue Medical Debt buys massive bundles of unpaid medical bills at steep discounts, then simply cancels them — no application, no catch, just a letter in the mail saying a debt you thought would follow you forever is gone. $49.6 billion relieved and counting.

Debt relief that arrives as a surprise letter instead of a fight

Over 100 million people in the US are carrying medical debt right now, collectively owing more than $220 billion. Most of them assume there's no way out short of bankruptcy or decades of slowly chipping away at it. Undue Medical Debt exists to prove that assumption wrong, for as many people as donations allow.

The math is almost hard to believe: every $10 donated relieves roughly $1,000 of medical debt on average. That ratio isn't a rounding error — it's how debt markets actually work. Unpaid medical bills get bundled and sold to collections agencies for pennies on the dollar. Undue buys those same bundles first, at that same steep discount, and instead of collecting, simply cancels the debt.

There's no application process for the people receiving relief. Undue identifies qualifying debt — based on income thresholds and financial hardship — and sends a letter out of the blue informing someone their medical debt has been abolished. One recipient described it simply: *"The weight on my shoulders just lifted off."

The stories behind the numbers are the part that sticks. A grandmother choosing between a rare heart condition's hospital bills and basic necessities. A mother of a child with special needs, unable to also cover her own family's care. A young mother whose chronic kidney stones quietly bankrupted her through repeat ER visits. Each one had their debt wiped by a letter they didn't see coming.

Together, Undue has relieved $49.6 billion in medical debt to date, and holds a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator for accountability and effectiveness. They're an official charity partner of both the TCS New York City Marathon and the ASICS Los Angeles Marathon, and they work directly with hospitals, health systems, and local governments to identify and erase debt at scale — while also pushing policy solutions aimed at the broken system that creates this debt in the first place.

Ten dollars doesn't feel like much. Here, it's the difference between someone carrying a $1,000 weight indefinitely, or getting a letter that says it's over.
